WELCOME TO GRANADA!

After over a month on the road, our family arrived in Granada on September 4th. Although our travels had exceeded all expectations, I must admit it was good to be home, in our new home, our Granada home, tucked in the beautiful, historic neighborhood of Realejo San-Matias. We had spent a week in this apartment a year ago when we came to Granada for Karen’s birthday, we fell in love with it. Arriving here the second time around, the familiarity of the place and the people was everything we had hoped it would be.  We live on a gorgeous plaza with a spectacular church and views of rooftops and the Sierra Nevada mountains.

We arrived at the flat to the warm welcome of our hosts Joao and Maria. They are incredible people who we have gotten to know over the past year as we prepared for this journey. Beyond being the owners of the apartment, we are renting, they’ve become trusted friends, guides, and investigators—helping us learn what we could about everything we were going to need in order to hit the ground running. Time and time again, they went above and beyond–even visiting 7 schools on our behalf and submitting all the paperwork for Cassius and Jackson. Incredible. They were familiar faces, and it was a welcome worth savoring.

You are very lucky to have such a beautiful place to live and to have made such good friends–even before your arrival! Glad that you are settling in and beginning to see what it’s like to live in a culture that’s different from your own–such a valuable experience!!

I’m glad that you are settling into the business of learning what it’s like to live in a culture that’s different from your own. As I’ve said many times, it’s such a wonderful opportunity to grow as an individual.
